The army and military themes are very popular in photography. This picture by Vincent H. is an eye-grabbing image due to its ambiguity. We can definitely see that an a military action is underway, but the character at the center makes the entire image more ambiguous: is it a drill; is it from a film, is it a social moment – one can’t really tell what is truly going on. This unclarity allows the viewer to pour his own stories into the image, and can always reinvent them, which is what a good image can do.
